Englisch als Arbeitssprache

NormaWho am I, what attracted me to Austria and my task as an EAA teacher?

-Due to my Portuguese roots my maiden name was Norma Dias.

My married name is Norma Schollar. I was born in a cosmopolitan city, Mumbai. English is my mother tongue.

-In high school I was elected head girl. That title made me responsible to train my school mates to compete in various competitions like singing, dancing, dramatics and sports.

All those youthful years made my life more meaningful.

- In 1988 I completed my Bachelor of Arts.

The subjects I majored in were Psychology and Sociology.

I studied French at the Alliance Français.

- Spent a great deal of my career in the travel and hotel industry, in Bahrain and Dubai – UAE.

-Wanted to learn German so I travelled all the way from Dubai to the rolling hills, I mean the Alps in theTyrol.

- My first job in Vienna was at the ORF Kindergarten as an English native speaker.

My task here at school is to teach EAA (Englisch als Arbeitssprache) that means English across the curriculum.

A true proverb says: Many hands make light work, so I do agree that team teaching makes school life easier, for pupils and for us as well. We have an efficient team in our school and it is an honour for me to work with intellects.

The subject teacher teaches in German, simultaneously I teach some of the matter in English. EAA is interesting, as we try to add fun and games to the lessons. English is an important, international language. This road to life is not just a one way traffic, it is a two way process. Pupils learn the subjects in German and in a foreign language as well. I also teach communication skills as an optional subject. Our school has a wonderful atmosphere, so I feel at home. Thanks to all my pupils, colleagues and especially my head mistress.
